Earth First! is a decentralized movement and banner/slogan, not an organization or a group. There is no single person in charge, no central leadership. Our network emerges when a local EF!’er comes forward with an idea or reason to assemble. Many of us are involved in other projects and contribute to more formalized organizations in the region working to stop fracking.
Finger Lakes Earth First! is kinda like something in-between a chapter and a network. Instead of meetings, we will have social events, games, cook-outs, educational things, and maybe ride-share together to big actions/protests/etc…
This upcoming Summer 2012 we are helping to organize and host the National Earth First! Round River Rendezvous in northeastern PA. See our front page for more information.
This website, the list serve, and the contacts serve those of us in the Finger Lakes Region who are ready to go out on a limb in defense of all that is wild.
Join the Mailing List (super low-traffic) and howl to your fellow Earth First’ers

Hey all,
I’m a student at Ithaca College studying environmental studies, policy, and climate justice. I’ve been all about EarthFirst! since seeing a documentary from crimethinc called “Pickaxe.” That love has been fueled by a love for Ed Abbey and a general frustration from what I’ve learned about environmental politics and justice so far. I was just interested in seeing what EarthFirst! is up to in the fingerlakes, and seeing what support/involvement I can offer.
Peace, love & renewable energy,
Gigi
Glad you’re interested in getting more involved. There’s no official EF meeting happening regularly around town. However, there’s Ef’ers everywhere, and we mobilize when it’s the right time and place. The best way to keep in touch is to get involved with any of the various regional groups. Go to wwww.shaleshock.org and look at the “regional groups” tab, or the “projects” tab to get involved in this movement.
an original poem:
eliminate dams to free the salmon
stop cutting trees down, it only serves Mammon
cease to scoop up fish in large nets from the sea
its clearly an atrocity
refrain from using oil to grow food
and ignore the voices of those who delude
Just throwin this out there on a whim: I’m looking for a job that will support rather than detract from the natural environment. If anyone has tips or leads on any work in the rochester area that falls in line with our earth first ethics i’d love to get an e-mail.
